Meeting Recap!
FEBRUARY 10, 2009:
We had a great meeting yesterday with five members in attendance.
I served as the Toastmaster for the evening and the word of the day was misanthropic.   Shawneequa Harris and I were the featured speakers.  Shawneequa gave a very enlightening speech titled “They’re Just Not That Into You” and I spoke on New Years Resolutions.  Leza Mesiah evaluated Shawneequa’s speech and Kathleen Casey evaluated mine. Leza was the Table Topics Queen and had the nerve to ask each of us if we were a shoe what shoe would we be?   I’m a shoe fanatic and couldn’t decide while others had some very creative ideas.    Kathleen served as the Grammarian/Ah Counter, Manh Vo served as the Timer/Vote Counter and Shawneequa was the General Evaluator. Please pay your dues renewal fee of $35 to Treasurer Charna Pettiway no later than March 17th

Meeting Recap for January 14, 2009:
Congratulations to Manh Vo!!
She presented her 10th speech in the Competent Communication Manual and earned both the “Best Speaker” award and the Competent Communicator award.
Fred Green was our guest for the second time.  He expects to join our club next week.We actually had two prepared speeches:  Manh—“Get that Advanced Directive” and Shannon—“Should We Stay or Should We Go?”  from the Advanced Manual Public Relations.  Both speakers demonstrated speaking skills commensurate with their TM levels and both of their speeches were equally informative. Thanks to the 7 members and 1 guest who were present at this week’s meeting. As usual we had good participation.  This week’s meeting ran a little longer than usual as we had a business meeting at the beginning.  The Club decided to1) discontinue “Best of the Big 3” award2) purchase 8 Competent Leadership manuals so that all members will become familiar with the CL award requirements and can track their progress toward the award3) purchase name badges for recent CC and ACB awardees (Charna, let me know if you have time today to meet and look at the TI catalogue.) 4) secure copies of the advanced manuals, and other specialty manuals (Evelyn will check with Xrevette about the box of materials believed to be in her office.)5) and Cheryl Williams was voted in as a member of the Young Street Yappers Club Club officers are encouraged to participate in officer training (TLI), which will give you fresh ideas about performing the duties for your position as well as give our club credit toward the Distinguished Club recognition.  Shannon will send to you the link for District 50 training to give you more options. Please do not forget to complete the club survey in the back of this month’s Toastmaster magazine and return to me ASAP.  Copies of the survey are available at the meeting. Please help Shannon update the speaking/role schedule through February by letting her know when you will be out as well as when you would like to speak. In spite of next Tuesday’s being Inauguration Day, Yappers will be meeting at the usual time and place.Jan. 20Toastmaster:     ShannonSpeakers:         Shannon; Evelyn’s topic--“Where is Your Manual?”Table Topics:     ???General Eval:     ??? EvelynHead Cheerleader
